Selective storytelling as a far right propaganda tool

The telling of stories of immigrant crime is an important but underestimated tool in far-right propaganda. The age old format of storytelling is important form of communication. As opposed to the communication of dry facts and statistics by written texts that is predominately used by the main political mainstream and left.

These stories were originally handed down by telling from one person to the next. Today, the handover of stories to a greater extent takes place through social media on the internet.

Right wing populists tell a mix of false stories and cherrypicked true stories of moral misconduct performed by immigrants. The stories that are individually true are some of the most effective as they are harder to refute, and they awake strong emotions, sympathy for the victim and outrage against the perpetrator on behalf of the victim. Still, the presentation is disinformation since the selection of stories makes it unrepresentative. Violent crime is present in any larger group of people, in any nation, religious group and in any social layer.
